5 THINGS ANXIOUS PEOPLE WOULD LIKE YOU TO KNOW

Everyone with anxiety is unique but there are at least 5 things I think most people with anxiety experience

SOMETIMES THE HARDEST THING YOU DO ALL DAY IS STARTING THE DAY.

Lots of people find getting out of bed in the morning tough. But when your anxious this can feel like climbing a mountain. Its not down to being lazy. For people with anxiety the thought of facing another day of anxiety can feel like too much. When your anxious its hard to be optimistic, so feeling like there’s anything good in the day ahead is tough.

YOU DON’T ALWAYS KNOW WHAT YOUR ANXIOUS ABOUT

The first thing people ask someone with anxiety is what are you worrying about. But often its not that simple, the feeling can just pop up from nowhere and before you know it is overwhelming. Anxiety is unlikely to be about just one thing, its more likely to be the product of a lifetime of experiences and emotions.

TELLING ME I’LL BE OK DOESN’T HELP

It’s easy to think that when someones feeling anxious all they need is a few words of wisdom and they’ll be ok. Things like “ we all worry sometimes” or “you’ll be ok” can really just make that anxiety feel worse and make someone with anxiety feel that the other person thinks your making a mountain out of mole hill. For most people in the midst of a panic or anxiety what they really need is just some comfort and time.

YOU CANT SNAP OUT OF IT, OR STOP THINKING ABOUT IT

Often from the outside it might seem that an anxious persons problems seem insignificant or you may want to minimise them, or even to compare them to whatever challenge we face right now. But when your in the midst of your anxiety it feels like nothing will just snap you out of it, and if it was that easy they would have already have done it.

WE ARE NOT ANTI-SOCIAL

Often finding the energy and motivation to socialise is almost impossible for someone who is feeling very anxious. As the friend of someone who is anxious, its likely your going to be rejected or ignored sometimes or in fact quite a lot. But that’s not because they are being anti-social its because they are scared and insecure as well as often being really tired. It’s not always easy being someone with anxieties friend but what you should know is that they do appreciate you being there.

NUMBER 6 –

Ok, I said this was a list of 5. But number six is something id like you to know.

You are not the only person who feels like this and you can and will get through it. Over the last 15 years I’ve specialised in helping people with anxiety and I feel privileged to spend every day helping people move on and begin enjoying life again.
